Large Wire Sculptures
These larger figures are very time consuming but are great fun to create. I start building the sculpture from the feet upwards by cutting sections of wire mesh, shaping them and then joining them together much like a 3 dimensional jigsaw puzzle. Most of the body will be four or five layers thick. When I am happy with the initial build of the sculpture I wrap it in single core wire to finish it off and add uniformity. Because the wire that I use is galvanised it means that these sculptures are weatherproof and can be used in either the home or the garden.
George and the Dragon
George is made from steel mesh and single core steel wire. The Dragonfly is made from brass and steel wire. Life sized sculpture at 3ft long x 2ft high. Sold

Opening
Opening was created for my Degree Show. He is slightly larger than life size and was designed around the idea of spiritual awakening. His fingers are opening a window in his chest to free his heart. I wanted to create a sculpture of a body that was also a cage, this is in reference to Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave' where he refers to the body as being 'a prison for the soul.' Sold

Closed
Closed was also created for my Degree Show, he is the antithesis of Opening. His body language is very closed and insular, on his head is a little door that is locked, he needs to find the key to the door that will lead him to freedom and enlightenment.

Bliss
Bliss was created out of some heavy duty wire that I found at a scrapyard. I like the idea of recreating something out of what people have discarded and deemed useless. When I initially created him he was suspended in a cage as part of my Degree Show, but he is now living out his days with his new friends Paul and Nina in their beautifully landscaped garden...ahhh bliss!
