Drawings and Paintings
I have always had a love of drawing and painting. When I am drawing I become completely immersed in the process and my work often takes on a life of its own. My drawings are usually figurative and I find that the use of the figure in my drawing informs my sculpture and visa versa.
Room for one more?
Room for One More? is an exercise in drawing the figure in multiple poses. The idea behind the composition was to express the claustrophobic nature of overcrowded buildings, transport and public places. I find it very interesting that humans are herded around in buses and trains much like cattle, we seem to spend a large part of our lifes in boxes of various sizes, whether that is our homes, offices, cars, buses or trains. 3ft x 4ft, 6b and 4b graphite pencils.
Let me out!
Let Me Out! was drawn in reference to the claustrophobic conditions of the underground and overcrowded public transport. 3ft 3ins x 4ft 6ins, 2b and 4b graphite pencils.
Pure Presence
Pure Presence is a term from Buddhism meaning full awareness of the here and now, an unclouded and non judgemental state of consciousness. I have interpreted this as a body of jewels, calm and at peace, while all around the chaos of existence plays out. 5ft x 4ft acrylic on canvas
Purple Rose
Purple Rose is a study of shape and form using a Pointillist technique used by Paul Signac. 4ft x 3ft acrylic on canvas.
Dream Catcher
Dream Catcher was inspired by the Surrealists and the concept of expressing the sub conscious by creating art from dreams. 3ft x 3ft acrylic on canvas.
